Our vision

We aim to bridge the gap between the socioeconomic status and health literacy in Dallas and Houston communities.

Health Education

Online Zoom/in-person health-coaching sessions offered in Spanish covering applicable disease management education. Connecting people with providers and educating them on the intricacies of the healthcare system.

Community Outreach

Organizing free screening events (e.g. diabetic retinopathy, colon cancer) and distributing donated medical supplies.

Founder

Abishai is a student at Rice University studying Biochemistry and Spanish. He began MedBridge in 2020 and has found a passion in working with local providers to deliver care to uninsured populations. Using his Spanish, Abishai has volunteered in free clinics, served in local homeless shelters, and currently works at the Ben Taub General Hospital to educate limited English proficiency (LEP) patients. His interests have also led him to conduct research on the language barrier in medicine at the Baker Institute and mentor refugee high school students every week. He is working towards a certification in medical interpretation, as well as an EMT-B certification. In addition to his passion for the language barrier, he researches retinal cell regeneration at Baylor College of Medicine and has engaged in scientific research since high school.

With the growing healthcare disparities seen in Dallas and Houston, Abishai has taken the initiative to start The MedBridge, a non-profit organization that is working to bridge the gap between the underserved and health literacy with a team of health coaches and providers.
